Brooklyn Park Marriage Records

Brooklyn Park marriage records are managed through Hennepin County, which issues all marriage licenses for residents of the city. Brooklyn Park is one of the largest cities in Hennepin County and the third largest in Minnesota, but like all cities in the state, it does not issue marriage licenses on its own. Residents go to a nearby Hennepin County service center. This page explains which office to visit, what to bring, what to pay, and how to find marriage records online.

Marriage License Requirements

Both parties must appear together at a Hennepin County service center with valid photo ID. Government-issued IDs such as a driver's license, state ID, or passport are accepted. You must also provide your Social Security number at the time of application. Under Minnesota Statute 517.08, both applicants must be at least 18 years old.

If either party was previously married, bring a certified copy of the divorce decree or a death certificate showing the previous marriage ended. The county will not issue a new license without this documentation. Come prepared to avoid a second trip.

The license is valid for six months and can be used anywhere in Minnesota. There is no waiting period. Hennepin County provides the original license plus two souvenir copies at no extra cost. Under Minnesota Statute 517.10, the officiant must return the completed license to the county within five days of the ceremony.

Marriage License Fees

The standard marriage license fee in Hennepin County is $115. Couples who complete an approved 12-hour premarital education course pay $40 instead. Proof of the course must be shown at the time of application. Expedited processing adds $20 to the fee and reduces the wait from about three weeks to about one week.

Certified copies of the marriage record are $9 per copy. You can request them when you pick up your license or order additional copies later through the Hennepin County Vital Records office at 612-348-8240.
