Minnetonka residents can start the marriage license process early by filling out the online pre-application at moms.mn.gov before their visit to the Ridgedale Service Center.
Completing the form online in advance can make your in-person visit shorter. Both parties still need to show up together to sign and pay before the license is issued.
Marriage License Requirements
Both applicants must appear in person together at the Ridgedale Service Center with a valid government-issued photo ID. A driver's license, passport, or state ID card is acceptable. You must also provide your Social Security number when applying. Under Minnesota Statute 517.08, both parties must be at least 18 years old.
If you were previously married, bring a certified copy of the final divorce decree or a death certificate showing the previous marriage ended. Hennepin County will not issue a new license without this documentation. Bring originals or certified copies, not photocopies.
The license is valid for six months from the date issued and can be used anywhere in Minnesota. There is no waiting period. Hennepin County gives you the original license plus two souvenir copies at no extra cost. The officiant must return the completed license to Hennepin County within five days of the ceremony under Minnesota Statute 517.10.
Minnetonka Marriage License Fees
Hennepin County charges $115 for a standard marriage license. Couples who complete an approved 12-hour premarital education course pay $40. You must show proof of the class at the time of application. Expedited processing is available for an extra $20 and reduces the processing time from about three weeks to roughly one week.
Certified copies of the marriage record are $9 each. Order them when you apply or request them later by calling Hennepin County at 612-348-8240. Always confirm current fees before your visit since amounts can change.
